ELIZABETHTOWN – Alexus Mitchell fired in 13 points to lead Elizabethtown to a 24-11 Bladen Five Middle School Conference girls basketball victory over Tar Heel Tuesday.
Shaunessy McMillian bombed in two 3-point shots and another basket in the first quarter as the Lady Panthers jumped out to an 8-3 lead. Lavada Jackson tossed in a basket, and Mitchell sank a free throw for the Lady Cougar points.
Center Carlie West worked the paint for 2 baskets and a free throw as Elizabethtown rode a 9-0 spurt to a 12-8 halftime lead. Mitchell contributed a basket and 2 free throws to the rally.
Kayleigh Raynor and West tossed in baskets in the third period to keep the Lady Cougars on top 16-11. McMillian threw in a basket and a free throw for Tar Heel in the quarter. McMillian scored all 11 Lady Panther points in the game.
Mitchell lit up the scoreboard with 4 fourth quarter baskets as Elizabethtown pulled away. West followed Mitchell on the Lady Cougar scoring list with 7 points.
Elizabethtown improved to 4-1 with the victory.
