ELIZABETHTOWN – Alexus Mitchell pumped in 13 points Thursday to lead Elizabethtown to a 25-4 Bladen Five Middle School Conference girls basketball victory over Tar Heel.

Baskets by Fabiola Sandoval and Kiera Lewis kept the Lady Panthers close early. Mitchell dropped in 2 first-quarter baskets, Zoe Smith threw in a basket, and Ronkira Lennon sank a free throw as Elizabethtown took a 7-4 lead.

Mitchell tossed in 2 more baskets and a free throw in the second period, Brianna Phillips hit a free throw as the Lady Cougar lead grew to 13-4 at halftime.

Mitchell fired in 2 more baskets in the third quarter, and Smith and Lennon popped in a basket each to stretch the lead to 21-4. Calise Jackson and Lainey Hughes scored a basket each in the final period.

Smith finished with 4 points for Elizabethtown. The Lady Cougars moved atop the Bladen Five with a 2-0 record.
