ELIZABETHTOWN – Elizabethtown shutout Clarkton School of Discovery in the final period Tuesday to pull out a 28-26 Bladen Five Middle School Conference girls basketball victory.

The victory clinched the Bladen Five regular season title for the Lady Cougars who improved to 5-0. Clarkton is now 3-2 in league play.

The Lady Blue Devils took a 26-21 lead into the final quarter, but Ronkira Lennon threw in a pair of baskets, Zoe Smith tossed in a basket and Alexus Mitchell hit a free throw to account for the 7-0 Elizabethtown rally.

Mitchell topped the Elizabethtown scoring with 11 points, and Zoe Smith fired in 9 points. Lennon followed with 6 points.

Mariah Smith led the Clarkton scoring with 12 points, and teammate AnnaGrey Heustess reached double figures with 10 points.

Zoe Smtih pumped in a pair of first quarter baskets for Elizabethtown. Mitchell canned a basket and a free throw, and Lennon added a basket as the Lady Cougars built a 9-4 lead.

Mariah Smith and Heustess dropped in baskets for Clarkton in the first period. Heustess worked the paint for a trio of baskets in the second quarter, and Mariah Smith nailed a 3-point shot and another basket. Emma Turbeville netted a basket as the Lady Blue Devils edged in front 17-15 at halftime.

Zoe Smith and Azariah Rhodie kept the Lady Cougars close with baskets, and Mitchell made two free throws.

Mariah Smith connected on three free throws and a basket in the third quarter, and Heustess and Maegan Burney popped in baskets as the Lady Blue Devil lead grew to 26-21.

Mitchell rang up two baskets and a free throw for Elizabethtown in the third quarter, and Zoe Smith cashed in a free throw.
