ELIZABETHTOWN – Ten different Elizabethtown players scored Tuesday as the Lady Cougars defeated Tar Heel 32-5 in Waccamaw Middle School girls’ basketball action.

Guard Aaliyah Monroe led the Elizabethtown scoring with 7 points, and teammates Sana’a Singletary and Kamyra McDowell followed with 5 points each. Ellen Battle tallied 4 points. ZaAsia Lewis threw in 3 points to lead Tar Heel.

Monroe fired in a 3-point shot and another basket in the opening quarter, and McDowell and Harmony Richardson tossed in baskets as the Lady Cougars built a 9-2 lead. Lewis worked inside for a Lady Panther basket.

Singletary battled inside for 2 baskets and a free throw in the 2nd period, and teammates McDowell, Zahreonna Baldwin, Kayclynn Chambers, Allysa Stringfield and Alayah Powell threw in a basket each as the Elizabethtown lead grew to 24-4. Abigail Dew and Lewis sank free throws for Tar Heel.

Monroe drove for a 3rd quarter basket, and Ellen Battle pumped in 2 baskets in the final period for the Lady Cougars. Nyasia Banks popped in a basket, and McDowell cashed in a free throw. Dew scored the final Tar Heel point on a foul shot.

Coach Cedric Owens’ Lady Cougars sit atop the Waccamaw’s ‘AA’ Division with 1 game remaining Thursday at West Columbus. Elizabethtown is 5-2 in league play and 7-5 overall. Tar Heel will host East Columbus Thursday.
