ELIZABETHTOWN – Iveonna Ward fired in 25 points to lead Elizabethtown to a 49-23 Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls’ basketball victory over Williams Township Thursday.

Ward blistered the nets with 5 first quarter baskets, and Laila Smith threw in a pair of field goals as the Lady Cougars rolled to an early 14-4 lead. Ward tossed in 2 baskets in the second period, and Laila Smith and Zoe Smith popped in a basket each as the lead grew to 22-8 at halftime.

Zoe Smith took charge in the third period pouring in 4 baskets. Ward connected for 3 more baskets, and Laila Smith pumped in 2 baskets as the Lady Cougars stretched their lead to 40-13.

Ward buried a 3-point shot and another basket in the final quarter. Laila Smith and Ariel Cromartie flipped in a basket each.

Laila Smith followed Ward on the Elizabethtown scoring list with 12 points, and Zoe Smith finished with 10 points. Adaea Todd led Williams with 7 points, and Reah Lee totaled 6 points.

Coach Cedric Owens’ Lady Cougars improved to 7-1 in Waccamaw AA Division play and 9-1 overall.
