HALLSBORO – Hallsboro rallied with a 14-2 second-half surge to defeat Bladenboro 19-13 Thursday in the Waccamaw Middle School Conference opener for both teams.
Mallory Bryan fired in a 3-point shot, another basket and 2 free throws to spark Bladenboro to a 7-3 first quarter lead. Teammate Megan Pait nailed a 3-point shot in the second period, and Trinity Meares sank a free throw to grow the Lady Bulldog lead to 11-5 at halftime.
Kaley Mitchell rallied the Lady Tigers with a 3-point basket and another bucket as Hallsboro took a 12-11 lead at the third quarter break. Teammate Emily Key threw in a trio of baskets in the final period.
Bryan led the Lady Bulldogs with 9 points, and Pait finished with 3 points. Kaley Mitchell topped the Hallsboro scoring with 8 points, and Key added 6 points.
