CHADBOURN – Valashia Murchison poured in 13 points to lead West Columbus to a 24-21 Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls basketball victory Monday in a make-up game.

Murchison scored 6 points in the opening quarter as the Lady Warriors grabbed a 9-4 lead. Abigail Dew nailed a 3-point shot, and Jahyrah Priest popped in a free throw for Tar Heel.

Delijah Smith buried a 3-point shot and another basket for the Lady Panthers, and teammate Janavia Adams drained a 3-point shot to whittle the WC halftime lead to 15-12.

Priest and Tahlela Bethea threw in baskets in the 3rd quarter, and Bethea tacked on a free throw to keep Tar Heel within 21-17. Bethea fired in 2 more baskets in the final quarter, but Murchison tossed in a basket and a free throw to provide the winning margin for the Lady Warriors.

Bethea led the Tar Heel scoring with 7 points, and Smith followed with 5 points. Skylah Collins tallied 7 points for West Columbus.
