The Clarkton School of Discovery Lady Blue Devils withstood a second-half Elizabethtown rally to claim a 22-20 victory Thursday and move into a first-place tie in the Bladen Five Middle School Conference with the Lady Cougars.

Jatyra Moore-Peterson who poured in a game-high 18 points for the Lady Cougars scored 4 points in the first quarter which ended with the teams tied 4-4.

Erica McKoy topped the Clarkton scoring with 11 points and Ashley Hardin kept the Lady Blue Devils even with 2 points each in the period.

McKoy tossed in 4 more points in the second quarter, and Anna Kate White added a basket as Clarkton built an 11-6 halftime lead.

Moore-Peterson tallied 6 points in the third quarter, and teammate Natalie Gainey added a basket. However, McKoy threw in 4 points in the third period, and White and Ting Lin delivered 2 points each to keep the Lady Blue Devil lead at 19-14.

Moore-Peterson rallied the Cougars with 6 more points in the final period, but Lorna Mendell padded the Clarkton lead with a basket, and McKoy sank a free throw for the final margin.

White followed McKoy on the CSD scoring list with 4 points.

Both teams are now 4-1 in conference play.
