WHITEVILLE – Clarkton School of Discovery and Central Middle School of Whiteville battled to a 2-2 tie Monday in the newly formed Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls’ soccer opener for both teams.
Central scored with ten seconds left in regulation to tie the game 2-2 and avoid the first girls’ soccer loss in their school’s history. “That game was the best middle school soccer I’ve ever seen,” said Lady Blue Devil Coach Jordan Raynor.
Sophia Masaid fired in a pair of first half goals to give Clarkton a 2-0 halftime lead. Cydney Campbell was credited with an assist on the second Masaid goal. Central answered with a pair of second-half goals including the late goal that sent the game to a pair of shoot-outs.
In the first shoot-out, Mauri Flores, Masaid and Karli Priest knocked in shots to put the Lady Blue Devils up 3-2 after 4 rounds, but the Lady Hornets tied the game with their final attempt to force a second shoot-out.
Central took a 2-1 lead in the second shoot-out, but Lilly Davis and Mollie Tolar drilled in shots to tie the shoot-out 3-3.
