TAR HEEL – Ellie Kinlaw scored 2 goals to lead Clarkton School of Discovery to a 5-1 non-conference girls’ soccer victory over Tar Heel Thursday.

Cabria Baldwin blasted in a long shot to open the Lady Blue Devil scoring. Brenna Hester drilled in a penalty kick for a 2-0 Clarkton lead. Kinlaw then hammered a shot that slipped past the Tar Heel goalie to boost the lead to 3-0.

Leidi Zuniga answered with a goal for Tar Heel that closed the gap to 3-1, but Clarkton’s Layla Lent boomed in another long shot to push the Lady Blue Devil halftime lead to 4-1.

Kinlaw knocked in a penalty kick in the 2nd half to pad the final margin to 5-1.

“Danielle Cotton (CSD goalie) along with our defense stepped up their game tonight,” said Lady Blue Devil Coach Laura Hall. “They were smart with clearing the ball and making effective passes to the forwards.”

Clarkton improved to 3-3 and will travel to Tabor City Monday for a 4 p.m. game. It was the 1st loss of the season for the Lady Panthers who are now 7-1 on the season. Tar Heel will play at West Columbus Monday for a 4 p.m. game.
