NAKINA – Karli Priest pitched a 5-hitter and struck out six to lead Clarkton School of Discovery to a 9-2 Waccamaw Middle School Conference softball victory over Nakina Monday.

Ashlynn Williams drew a second-inning walk, advanced on a fielder’s choice and scored on an error for a 1-0 Lady Blue Devil lead. Cydney Campbell led off the Clarkton fourth inning with a single and raced home when Priest belted a single to centerfield.

The Lady Blue Devils stretched the lead to 5-0 in the fifth. Addie Bowen drew a lead-off walk, and Emma Turbeville beat out an infield hit. Maegan Burney and Molly Evans reached base as Bowen and Turbeville scored. AnnaGrey Heustess sacrifice bunt scored Burney.

Lena Trinidad was hit by a pitch to begin the CSD sixth inning but was retired on Maddie Taylor’s fielder’s choice. Bowen walked, and Turbeville reached base on an error. Burney, Traveyuana Gaskins and Heustess drew walks as Taylor, Bowen, Turbeville and Burney scored to push the lead to 9-0.

Nakina rallied with two runs in the bottom of the sixth on 3 hits.

Priest, Turbeville and Campbell finished with one hit each. Bowen walked 4 times, was hit by a pitch and scored twice. Turbeville and Burney also scored twice.

Clarkton will travel to Bladenboro Thursday.
