Andrew Cahn fired in the game-winning goal in the penalty kick shoot-out as Clarkton School of Discovery defeated Tar Heel 2-1 Thursday night in Bladen Five Middle School Conference soccer action at County Park.

The game was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, and the Blue Devils outscored the Panthers 3-2 in the penalty kick shoot-out.

The Blue Devils improve to 6-1 and move into first place with the victory. Tar Heel, now 5-2, still has a chance to tie for the title if they can defeat East Arcadia Monday, and if Elizabethtown was to win against Clarkton Monday.

The Panthers took the lead with a goal 24:30 into the first half.

Four minutes into to the second half, Clarkton’s Garrett Melvin took a throw in pass from Gabe Barber and sent it into the goal to tie the game 1-1.

Joseph Massaid and Gabe Barber drilled in the first two shoot-out goals for the Blue Devils to match a pair of successful Tar Heel goals.
