Garrett Melvin and Jay McGill scored 2 goals each to lead Clarkton School of Discovery to a 6-2 Bladen Five Middle School Conference victory over Bladenboro Monday at County Park.
McGill put the Blue Devils ahead early with a goal in the first minute of play. McGill pounced on a throw-in from Gabe Barber and fired it into the net.
Eleven minutes later Joseph Massaid turned a Melvin assist into the second Blue Devil goal.
Wilmer Garcia answered for the Bulldogs in the 21st minute with a goal that trimmed the Clarkton lead to 2-1 at halftime.
Seven minutes into the second half Melvin capitalized on an assist from Jake Evans to score his first goal of the game and put the Blue Devils ahead 3-1.One minute later Evans drilled in a goal off of a corner kick to stretch the lead to 4-1.
Five minues later Melvin delivered his second goal of the game to widen the gap to 5-1. Eighteen minutes into the second half, McGill converted an assist from Andrew Cahn into his second goal of the game.
Four minutes later Flores fired in his second goal of the game to pull the Bulldogs to within 6-2.
The Blue Devils improved to 4-1 and into a first-place tie with Tar Heel. Clarkton plays East Arcadia today at 5 p.m. Bladenboro is now 2-4 and will play Tar Heel at 4 p.m. today.
