CLARKTON – Bladenboro clinched the Bladen Five Middle School Conference softball championship Tuesday with a 14-6 victory over Clarkton School of Discovery.

The Lady Bulldogs jumped in front with a pair of first inning runs. Rylee Chadwick led off with a single, and Savannah Turbeville blasted a double to drive her in. Turbeville scored on McKenzie Singletary’s sacrifice fly.

Bladenboro padded the lead with 3 runs in the second inning. Lauren Pait reached base on an error, and Chadwick knocked her in with a 2-out single. Lainey Autry reached base on an error, and Savannah Turbeville belted a single that scored Chadwick and Autry and pushed the lead to 5-0.

Emma Turbeville cracked a single in the Clarkton second inning, and Cydney Campbell drove her in with a single.

Hannah Pait was hit by a pitch to start the Lady Bulldog third inning and raced home when Lauren Pait clobbered a triple. 

Savannah Turbeville swatted a single in the Bladenboro fourth, and Singletary smacked a single to drive her in and push the lead to 7-1.

Mariah Smith reached base on an error in the Lady Blue Devil fourth, and Shy’Asia Ratliff walloped a triple to drive her in. Ratliff later scored to trim the margin to 7-3.

Bladenboro answered with 3 runs in the fifth. Megan West, Taylor Lewis and Chadwick delivered back-to-back-to-back singles to load the bases. Autry’s fielder’s choice plated West, and Turbeville laced a single that scored Lewis and Chadwick for a 10-3 lead.

Clarkton bounced back with 3 runs in the home fifth. Lena Trinidad and Maddie Taylor drew walks, and Addie Bowen drilled a single that plated Trinidad. Smith rapped a single that scored Taylor, and Ratliff pounded a double that scored Bowen and closed the gap to 10-6.

The Lady Bulldogs pulled away with four runs in the seventh. Autry reached base on an error, and Savannah Turbeville connected for a single that scored Autry. Singletary hammered a double that plated Turbeville.

Hannah Pait followed with a single, and Kaden Thurman walked. Lauren Pait and West tacked on back-to-back singles that scored Singletary and Hannah Pait.

Chadwick pitched a 7-hitter and struck out nine batters to pick up the victory for the Lady Bulldogs. She walked 2 batters.

Savannah Turbeville batted a perfect 5-5 with a double and 6 runs batted in to lead the Bladenboro hitters. Singletary finished with a 3-4 day at the plate that included a double, 3 rbi’s and a run scored. Chadwick batted 3-6 with an rbi and 3 runs scored.

Lauren Pait finished 2-5 at the plate with a triple, 2 rbi’s and a run scored. West batted 2-5 with an rbi and a run scored. Lewis was also 2-5 with a run scored. Hannah Pait singled and scored twice. Autry scored twice and drove in a run.

Ratliff batted 2-4 with a double, a triple, 2 rbi’s and a run scored to lead the Clarkton hitters. Bowen, Smith, Emma Turbeville, Campbell and Taylor connected for one hit each. Bowen, Smith and Campbell drove in runs. Bowen, Smith, Emma Turbeville, Taylor and Trinidad scored runs.

Bladenboro improved to 5-0 with the win and will travel to Tar Heel Thursday. Clarkton School of Discovery is now 3-2 and will visit Elizabethtown Thursday.
