BLADENBORO – Bladenboro moved into first place in the Bladen Five Middle School Conference softball standings Thursday with a 14-8 victory over Clarkton School of Discovery.
The Lady Blue Devils grabbed an early 2-0 lead. Addie Bowen led off with a single, advanced on a passed ball and scored on Karli Priest’s single. Emma Turbeville drove in Priest with a single.
Pitcher Rylee Chadwick smashed a lead-off double in the home first and scored the first Bladenboro run.
The Lady Blue Devils stretched their lead to 6-1 in the top of the second as Lena Trinidad, Maddie Taylor, Bowen and Priest drew one-out walks and all four scored.
Lauren Pait led off the 6-run Lady Bulldog second with a single and scored on Kaden Thurman’s single. Megan West belted a single that scored Thurman. Taylor Lewis clubbed a double that scored West.
Chadwick smacked a single, and Lainey Autry knocked her in with a double. Savannah Turbeville hammered a double that scored Autry. Singletary ripped a single that scored Turbeville and put the Lady Bulldogs ahead 7-6.
Thurman walked in the third inning, and Taylor Lewis reached base on an error. Chadwick reached base on a fielder’s choice that scored Thurman. Autry singled, and Savannah Turbeville was hit by a pitch to force home Chadwick.
Singletary delivered a 2-run single that scored Autry and Savannah Turbeville and padded the Bladenboro lead to 12-6.
Chadwick and Autry laced singles in the Lady Bulldog fifth inning, and both scored when Savannah Turbeville pounded a double that pushed the lead to 14-6.
Bowen walloped a 2-out triple in the Clarkton sixth inning, and Priest swatted a single that scored Bowen.
Emma Turbeville slammed a double in the Lady Blue Devil seventh inning and scored as AnnaGrey Heustess reached base on an error.
Chadwick batted 3-4 with a double, a run batted in and 3 runs scored for the Lady Bulldogs. Autry finished 3-4 at the plate with a double, an rbi and 3 runs scored. Singletary also batted 3-4 with 2 rbi’s. Savannah Turbeville batted 2-3 with 2 doubles, 4 rbi’s and 2 runs scored.
Lewis doubled, and West, Thurman and Lauren Pait added one hit each to the 15-hit Lady Bulldog attack. Thurman scored twice, and Lauren Pait, West and Lewis scored one run each. Thurman, West and Lewis had one rbi each.
Chadwick pitched a 7-hitter, struck out nine and walked five to pick up the win. Clarkton’s Priest struck out two, walked none and hit a batter.
Emma Turbeville batted 3-4 with a double, an rbi and a run scored for the Lady Blue Devils. Priest turned in a perfect 2-2 game at the plate with 2 rbi’s and 2 runs scored. Bowen batted 2-3 with a triple and 3 runs scored. Trinidad and Taylor scored one run each.
Coach Steve Thurman’s Lady Bulldogs improved to 2-0 with the victory. Clarkton is now 1-1.
