Middle School Softball: Clarkton School of Discovery 14, Elizabethtown 2

CLARKTON – Clarkton School of Discovery exploded for 6 first-inning runs en route to a 14-2 Bladen Five Middle School Conference baseball victory over Elizabethtown Wednesday.

Addie Bowen reached on a passed third strike and raced home when Mariah Smith swatted a single to right field. Shy’Asia Ratliff blasted a home run to right-centerfield that scored Smith ahead of her.

Emma Turbeville drilled a double to centerfield and scored when Lena Trinidad reached base on an error. Molly Evans reached on an error, and AnnaGrey Heustess ripped a double to left-centerfield that scored Trinidad and Evans.

Lainey Hughes yanked a single to leftfield in the Elizabethtown second inning. Hughes scored as Alexus Mitchell reached base on an error.

Azariah Rhodie led off the Lady Cougar third inning with a single, and Max Strickland knocked her in with a single to left that trimmed the Clarkton lead to 6-2.

Evans was hit by a pitch to start the Clarkton third inning, and Heustess smashed a double that scored Evans. Karli Priest belted a single that scored Heustess.

Smith reached base on an error that scored Priest, and Ratliff reached base on an error that plated Smith. Dyiamon Robinson laced a single that scored Ratliff and stretched the Lady Blue Devil lead to 11-2.

Ashlyn Williams cracked a single to right-centerfield to begin the Clarkton fourth. Williams dashed home as Heustess reached base on an error. Bowen reached base on an error that scored Heustess, and Priest raked a single to left that scored Bowen and upped the count to 14-2.

Heustess drove in 3 runs with a pair of doubles and scored twice for Clarkton. Turbeville batted 2-2 with a double and a run scored. Priest finished 2-4 at the plate with 2 runs batted in and a run scored.

Smith finished 2-4 at the plate with an rbi and 2 runs scored. Ratliff slugged the 2-run homer. Williams and Robinson added one hit each for Clarkton. Bowen and Evans scored 2 runs each. Williams and Trinidad scored one run each, and Robinson drove in a run.

Hughes batted 2-3 with a run scored to lead Elizabethtown. Teammates Laura Davisson, Strickland and Rhodie connected for one hit each. Rhodie scored a run, and Strickland drove in a run.

Priest pitched a 5-hitter and struck out eight to pick up the victory for Clarkton. She walked two and hit one. Davisson struck out four for Elizabethtown.
