HALLSBORO – Clarkton School of Discovery rode a 6-run third-inning rally to a 16-13 Waccamaw Middle School Conference victory over Hallsboro Thursday.

The Lady Blue Devils jumped in front 3-0 in the first inning. Karli Priest led off the game with a single but was retired on Emma Turbeville’s fielder’s choice. Addie Bowen smacked a single to centerfield, and Shy’Asia Ratliff yanked a double to left that scored Turbeville and Bowen. Ratliff dashed home as AnnaGrey Heustess reached base on an error.

Karli Godwin and Powell slugged home runs in a 5-run Hallsboro first-inning that vaulted the Lady Tigers ahead 5-3.

Clarkton answered with 4 runs in the second. Maddie Taylor cracked a single to centerfield, and Priest rapped a single to centerfield. Turbeville slammed a double that scored Taylor, and Bowen hammered a double that scored Priest and Turbeville. Ratliff’s sacrifice fly scored Bowen for a 7-5 CSD lead.

After Hallsboro trimmed the margin to 7-6, the Lady Blue Devils took charge with the 6-run third inning. Ashlyn Williams walked, Taylor reached base on an error, and Priest swatted a single to right-centerfield. Turbeville’s fielder’s choice plated Williams and retired Taylor.

Bowen and Ratliff drew walks that forced home Priest. Lena Trinidad reached base on an error that scored Turbeville and Bowen. Maegan Burney smacked a single to rightfield that scored Ratliff and Trinidad and stretched the lead to 13-6.

Hallsboro closed the gap to 13-9 in the fourth, before the Lady Blue Devils answered in the fifth inning. Molly Evans was hit by a pitch, and scored when Heustess laced a single to rightfield. Burney reached base on a fielder’s choice, and Taylor’s fielder’s choice scored Heustess. Burney scored as the lead grew to 16-9.

The Lady Tigers scored a run in the fifth and 3 more in the sixth, before Heustess threw out a runner trying to steal third base to end the game.

Bowen batted 3-4 with a double, 3 runs scored and 2 runs batted in. Priest also finished 3-4 at the plate with 2 runs scored. Ratliff batted 2-3 with 2 doubles, 4 rbi’s and 2 runs scored. Taylor finished 2-4 with an rbi and a run scored.

Turbeville doubled, scored 3 runs and had 2 rbi’s. Heustess and Burney added one hit each. Burney had 2 rbi’s, and Heustess had an rbi. Williams, Evans, Trinidad, Burney and Heustess scored one run each. Priest pitched a complete game and struck out four batters.

Godwin batted 3-3 with 2 home runs, a double, 3rbi’s and 4 runs scored to lead the Lady Tigers. Powell finished 2-4 with a home run and 2 runs scored. Watts batted 2-3.

Coach Jordan Raynor’s Lady Blue Devils retained a share of first place in the AA Division with a 6-2 league record and 7-2 overall mark. Clarkton will host Tar Heel Monday.
