CLARKTON – A trio of Clarkton School of Discovery pitchers combined to pitch a no-hitter Thursday as the Lady Blue Devils posted a 16-1 Bladen Five Middle School Conference victory over Tar Heel.

Starting pitcher Jill Kinlaw struck out two and walked one batter in her scoreless first inning. Karli Priest struck out one and walked four in the second inning, but tagged two runners out at the plate who were trying to score on wild pitches.

Lauren Bowen pitched the third inning and struck out two batters. Tar Heel catcher Kaylee Page was hit by a pitch, stole second base and raced home on an error to score the Lady Panther run.

Clarkton jumped in front with 9 runs in the first inning. Emma Turbeville and Alyssa Futrell belted one out singles, and Bowen hammered a triple that scored both runners. Cydney Campbell walked, and Kinlaw was hit by a pitch.

Bowen darted home on a wild pitch, and Khadijah Jones’ fielder’s choice plated Campbell. Maegan Burney reached base on an error as Kinlaw scored.

After Abbey Collins and Mariah Smith drew walks, Turbeville walloped a grand-slam home run that plated Burney, Collins and Smith ahead of her and put CSD ahead 9-0.

Bowen smashed her second triple of the game to begin the Clarkton second. Bowen dashed home on a wild pitch, and Campbell, Priest and Jones drew walks. Burney knocked all three of them in with a double.

Collins walked, and Smith’s fielder’s choice brought in Burney. Collins scooted home on a wild pitch for a 15-0 lead.

After Page scored in the Tar Heel third, Jones led off the Clarkton third with an infield hit and stole second and third base. Quadasia Monroe beat out an infield hit, and Collins’ single drove in Jones with the game-ending run.

Turbeville batted a perfect 2-2 with the grand-slam home run and 2 runs scored. Bowen slammed 2 triples, drove in 2 runs and scored twice. Burney belted the 3-run double. Futrell, Monroe and Collins added one hit each.

Collins, Burney, Campbell and Jones scored two runs each. Smith, Futrell, Kinlaw, and Priest scored one run each.

Shelby Pharr pitched 1.2 innings for Tar Heel, and Amelia Brisson relieved her in the second and finished up in the circle.

The Lady Blue Devils evened their record at 2-2 with the victory.
