Clarkton School of Discovery

Clarkton School of Discovery racked up 12 first-inning runs and went on to defeat visiting Tar Heel 20-3 Monday in non-conference softball action.

Izzy Smith batted a perfect 2-2 to lead the Lady Blue Devil hitters and scored 3 runs. Teammate Adrian Howell walked 4 times and scored 4 runs. Anna Kate White drew 3 walks and scored 3 runs.

White pitched all 4 innings for Clarkton and struck out three. White also started a triple play by catching a pop-up, tagging a runner between third base and home, then firing to second base to double off another runner and complete the triple play.

Conner Brisson went the distance in the circle for Tar Heel and struck out seven. Brisson hammered a double to left-centerfield and scored a run for the Lady Panthers. Teammate Indra Rodriguez smacked a single for the other Tar Heel hit.

Brisson snagged a pop-up and outran a Clarkton runner to third base to complete an unassisted double play and end the second inning.

The Lady Blue Devils improved to 3-0 and will host Bladenboro Tuesday at 4 p.m. Tar Heel will entertain Elizabethtown Tuesday at 4 p.m.
