CLARKTON – Addie Bowen singled and scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as Clarkton School of Discovery edged Bladenboro 6-5 Monday in Waccamaw Middle School Conference softball action.

Bowen led off the seventh with a single to left. Shy’Asia Ratliff reached base on an error, and Lena Trinidad drew a one-out walk. An error on AnnaGrey Heustess’ grounder scored Bowen with the game-winner.

The Lady Blue Devils grabbed an 1-0 first-inning lead. Emma Turbeville walked and sprinted home on an error as Shy’Asia Ratliff reached base.

Bladenboro tied it in the third inning as Rylee Chadwick hammered a triple and scored on Lainey Autry’s fielder’s choice.

Clarkton answered with 3 runs in the home third. Turbeville led off with a single, and Bowen laced a single to centerfield. Megan Burney walked, and Trinidad reached base on an error. Turbeville, Bowen and Burney all scored for a 4-1 lead.

McKenzie Singletary belted a single to left in the Lady Bulldog sixth and scored on Kalli Bass’ sacrifice fly to trim the margin to 4-2.

Priest smacked a single to centerfield in the CSD sixth and scored on an error to pad the lead to 5-2.

Marlie Walters reached base on an error to begin the Bladenboro seventh inning. Chadwick slammed a 2-out double to left-center that scored Walters, and Autry walloped a 2-run home run to leftfield that tied the game.

Bowen batted 2-5 with 2 runs scored to lead the Lady Blue Devil hitters, and Priest finished 2-5 at the plate with a run scored. Maddie Taylor blasted a triple, and Turbeville singled and scored 2 runs. Ratliff also scored a run.

Priest struck out seven batters and allowed 5 runs- 2 earned – on 8 hits and a walk to pick up the win. Chadwick struck out 13 batters for Bladenboro and gave up 6 runs – 2 earned – on 6 hits and 6 walks.

Chadwick batted 3-4 with a triple, a double, 2 runs scored and a run batted in. Autry homered, drove in 3 runs and scored one. McKenzie Singletary, Brook Singletary, Megan West and Walters connected for one hit each. Walters and McKenzie Singletary scored runs, and Bass drove in a run.

With the win Coach Jordan Raynor’s Lady Blue Devils vaulted back on top in the Waccamaw’s AA Division with a 5-2 league record and 6-2 overall mark. Clarkton will travel to Elizabethtown Tuesday.

Bladenboro, now 4-2 in the AA Division and 4-3 overall, will travel to Nakina Thursday.
