CLARKTON – Karli Priest pitched a one-hitter and struck out nine batters to lead Clarkton School of Discovery to a 6-1 Waccamaw Middle School Conference softball victory Monday over Elizabethtown.

Zoe Smith walloped a solo home run in the second inning to put Elizabethtown ahead 1-0.

The Lady Blue Devils rallied in the fourth inning. Shy’Asia Ratliff and Lena Trinidad belted one-out singles. Maegan Burney reached base on an error, and Ashlyn Williams beat out an infield hit as Ratliff and Trinidad scored runs to put Clarkton ahead 2-1.

Priest blasted a triple to centerfield to lead off the Clarkton fifth. Addie Bowen reached base on an error, and Emmee Ward beat out an infield hit. Priest and Bowen scored runs for a 4-1 CSD lead.

Williams reached base on an error to start the Lady Blue Devil sixth. Traveyuana Gaskins forced Williams at second base. Priest reached base on an error as Gaskins scored, and Sophia Masaid beat out an infield hit as Priest scored for a 6-1 lead.

Trinidad batted 2-2 to lead the Clarkton hitters, and Priest tripled and scored twice. Ratliff, Williams and Ward connected for one hit each. Bowen, Ratliff, Trinidad and Gaskins scored one run each.

Smith’s home run was the only Lady Cougar hit. Laura Davisson pitched a 7-hitter and struck out ten batters for Elizabethtown. Davisson walked one and allowed six runs, but only two of those runs were earned.

Coach Jordan Raynor’s Lady Blue Devils improve to 4-1 and will host Nakina Tuesday. Elizabethtown will host Emereau Charter Tuesday.
