BLADENBORO – Clarkton School of Discovery built an 8-2 lead then held on for a 9-7 Bladen Five Middle School Conference softball victory over Bladenboro.

The Blue Devils took a quick 1-0 lead as Katie Evans walked, stole a base and dashed home on Khadijah Jones’ single.

Lainey Autry led off the Lady Bulldog first with a single and eventually scored on Savannah Turbeville’s fielder’s choice to tie the game 1-1.

Bladenboro took a 2-1 lead in the second as Taylor West smacked a single, stole 2 bases and Megan West knocked her in with a single.

Jones ignited a 4-run Clarkton rally in the fourth inning with a single then stole 2 bases and scooted home when Mariah Smith slammed a double. Quadasia Monroe’s fielder’s choice plated Smith.

AnnaGrey Heustess walked, and Tara Rogers reached base on a fielder’s choice. Alyssa Futrell hammered a double that scored Heustess and Rogers to put the Lady Blue Devils in front 5-2.

In the Clarkton fifth, Lauren Bowen reached base on an error, stole 2 bases and scampered home when Smith reached base on an error. Monroe belted a single that scored Smith. Pitcher Jordan Kinlaw walloped a double that scored Monroe and stretched the lead to 8-2.

Autry was hit by a pitch, stole a base and sprinted home when Rylee Chadwick smacked a single. Turbeville walked and Hannah Pait was hit by a pitch, before McKenzie Singletary drilled a double that scored Chadwick, Turbeville and Pait and closed the gap to 8-6.

Megan West reached base on an error in the Bladenboro sixth inning and scored as Chadwick reached base on an error to trim the Clarkton lead to 8-7.

The Lady Blue Devils tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning. Jones rapped a single, stole 2 bases and scored on Smith’s sacrifice fly.

Jones batted 3-4 and scored 2 runs to lead the Clarkton attack. Monroe finished 2-4 at the plate with 2 runs batted in and a run scored. Smith doubled in a run and scored twice.

Kinlaw also doubled in a run. Futrell delivered the 2-run single. Bowen, Evans, Heustess and Rogers scored one run each.

Kinlaw struck out 5 batters and allowed 7 hits, 3 walks and 2 hit batters.

Singletary slugged the 3-run double to lead Bladenboro. Autry, Chadwick, Turbeville, Pait, Taylor West and Megan West connected for one hit each.

Autry scored 2 runs, and Chadwick, Turbeville, Pait, Taylor West and Megan West scored one run each. Chadwick, Turbeville and Megan West drove in one run each.

Chadwick struck out ten batters, walked three and gave up 8 hits.

The Lady Blue Devils finished their season with a 4-2 record. Bladenboro dropped to 3-2, but can force a 3-way tie for first place if they win their final game Monday at home against Elizabethtown.
