WHITEVILLE – Columbus Christian defeated Emereau 12-2 Tuesday in middle school softball action.

Gabby Bray pitched the first inning for the Emereau Lady Aviators, and Jenna Bryce, a fifth grader, relieved and pitched the final four innings.

Catcher Martha Simmons and Bryce scored the Emereau runs. Layla Lent turned in a defensive highlight snagging a pop fly and diving to the bag at second base to double off a runner and end the inning.

“Our girls are playing so much better! I am so proud of them,” said Lady Aviator Coach Alley Rich. “We are learning each other, their positions, starting to get some hits and walks as well as moving the ball when the other team gets a hit.”

Emereau will travel to Wayne Preparatory School Thursday for a 4:30 game.
