ELIZABETHTOWN- Emereau Bladen scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to snap a 3-3 tie and defeat Whiteville Central 6-3 Wednesday in non-conference middle school softball action.

Taylor Dowless drew a walk to begin the winning rally and raced to 3rd base when Mollie Tolar yanked a single to leftfield. Jenna Brice launched a deep sacrifice fly to centerfield that scored Dowless with the go-ahead run and sent Tolar to 3rd base. Martha Simmons beat out an infield hit that scored Tolar. Simmons later scored the 3rd run of the inning.

Central had one runner picked off 1st base by Simmons, the Lady Aviator catcher, in the 6th inning then a double play ended the game.

Brice pitched all 6 innings and struck out 6 batters, while allowing 3 runs on 7 hits and a walk. Brice also walloped a long double to leftfield that ignited a 2-run, 1st-inning rally. Simmons reached base on an error and also scored in the first. Miriam Devane reached base on a fielder’s choice in the 4th inning and scored on Aubrei Nixon’s single.

Brice doubled and drove in a run to lead the Emereau hitters. Simmons, Gracie Clark, Nixon and Tolar connected for one hit each. Simmons scored twice, and Dowless, Tolar, and Brice scored runs.

The Lady Aviators remained unbeaten with a 4-0 record and will travel to Columbus Christian Tuesday for a 4:30 game.
