BLADENBORO – Nakina scored 5 runs in the 6th inning and 3 more in the 7th to break open a 9-8 game and claim a 17-8 Waccamaw Middle School Conference softball victory over Bladenboro Tuesday.

After Nakina grabbed an early 2-0 lead, Bladenboro tied the game with 2 runs in the home first. Allison Hickman reached base on an error, Maycee Kinlaw smacked a single to left, and Karlee Gause drove in Hickman with a single. Kinlaw scored on Hadley Dove’s fielder’s choice to tie the game.

The Lady Mustangs went up 6-2 in the 2nd, but Cheyenne Reinhart walked, and Hickman and Kinlaw belted singles in the bottom of the inning. A couple of Nakina errors and Dove’s fielder’s choice scored Reinhart, Hickman, Kinlaw and Dove to tie the game again 6-6.

Three runs in the 4th inning pushed Nakina ahead 9-6. Kinlaw led off the Lady Bulldog 4th with a single to center field, Gause pounded a double, and Dove’s fielder’s choice plated Kinlaw. Gause later scored to whittle the lead to 9-8.

Three hits, 2 walks and an error produced the 5 Nakina runs in the 6th inning and stretched the lead to 15-8.

Kinlaw batted a perfect 4-for-4 and scored 3 runs for the Lady Bulldogs. Gause finished with a 3-for-4 game at the plate with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Hickman singled and scored twice. Dove and Reinhart scored runs, and Dove had an RBI.

Hickman struck out 15 batters in the circle for Bladenboro while giving up 9 hits and 6 walks. “We had a bunch of errors, but Nakina hit the ball,” said Lady Bulldog Coach Otis Evans.

Laikyn batted 4-for-5 with a home run and 3 runs scored to lead the Lady Mustangs. Lenzy was 2-for-4 with a home run and 2 runs scored.

Bladenboro, now 2-1 in Waccamaw play, will host Elizabethtown Wednesday.
