FAYETTEVILLE – Riverside scored 5 runs in their final 2 at-bats to rally from a 5-2 deficit and edge Emereau Bladen 7-6 in 8 innings Tuesday in non-conference middle school softball action.
Jaimee Perkins singled and circled the bases on an error to pad Emereau’s lead to 5-2 in the top of the 7th inning. Riverside capitalized on a walk and 2 Lady Aviator errors to tie the game 5-5 in the bottom of the inning.
Addison Douglas reached base on an error and scored in the top of the 8th inning to put Emereau back on top 6-5. Three walks, a hit batter and an error plated the tying and winning runs for Riverside in the bottom of the 8th.
Perkins batted 2-for-4 with a double and 3 runs scored to lead the Emereau hitters. Tatum Allen hammered a double and scored 2 runs. Taylor Dowless, Gracey Edwards and Emma Fisher smacked 1 hit each for the Lady Aviators. Douglas scored a run.
Edwards started in the circle and pitched 7.1 innings allowing 7 runs – 1 earned- on 3 hits and 7 walks. Allen pitched to 3 batters in the 8th. Seven errors plagued the Emereau cause.
The Lady Aviators, now 7-2, are scheduled to travel to Whiteville Central Thursday.
