GOLDSBORO – Miriam Devane walloped the first home run of her career, but Emereau Charter dropped a narrow 12-11 softball decision to Wayne Preparatory Thursday.

Gabby Bray slammed a double for the Lady Aviators. Bray and catcher Martha Simmons combined to drive in 6 runs.

Karly Ross started in the pitching circle for Emereau and was relieved in the second inning by Madi Sullivan who finished out the game and struck out five batters.

Coach Alley Ross noted, “Martha was the catcher for the entire game and made some great plays. All of our girls did an outstanding job of working as a team!”

Emereau Charter will travel to Christ the Cornerstone Friday.
