bld5vb1101ea-0028CLARKTON – Clarkton School of Discovery completed an undefeated regular season Tuesday with a 2-0 victory over East Arcadia in Bladen Five Middle School Conference volleyball action.

Lauren Bowen drilled in 3 aces during a 5-point service run that vaulted Clarkton into the early lead. Teammate Khadijah Jones tacked on 2 service points that stretched the lead to 8-1.

Alyssa Futrell slammed in 4 aces during her 7-point service run for the Lady Blue Devils, and Sara Gargala knocked in an ace and a service point. Lily Lin smoked in an ace, before Bowen served out the final 2 points of the set for a 25-6 win.

East Arcadia grabbed a 3-0 lead in the second set, before Clarkton’s Merritt Martin hit what Coach Chris Callihan called ‘a spectacular return.’ Katie Evans tied the set 3-3 with a pair of service points.

Teammate AnnaGrey Heustess then reeled off 8 straight service points that included an ace. Coach Callihan noted that “Lauren Gooden hit a great return during the service run.”

The Clarkton lead grew to 18-8 before a trio of service points from Maegan Burney padded the lead to 21-8. Martin belted “another awesome return” according to Callihan, then served out the set and match with 3 consecutive service points for a 25-9 victory.

In Tuesday’s first match Elizabethtown defeated Tar Heel 3-0. The Lady Cougars are now 3-1, while Tar Heel dropped to 1-3. Elizabethtown will play Bladenboro (2-2) in the post-season tournament.

Clarkton School of Discovery (4-0) will host the Bladen Five Tournament Tuesday at 4 p.m. No. 5 East Arcadia  will open the tournament  against Tar Heel. The winner will play Clarkton in the second match.
