BLADENBORO – Clarkton School of Discovery defeated East Arcadia 3-0 Thursday in Bladen Five Middle School volleyball action by set scores of 25-4, 25-13 and 25-10.
Merritt Martin started the match with an incredible service run of 17 points that included one ace for the Lady Blue Devils. Lauren Gooden won two of the points with outstanding returns.
After a service error by East Arcadia, Heather Hardin slammed in an ace and another service point for Clarkton. Teammate Karli Priest served out the set with 4 service points that included an ace.
Sophia Masaid knocked in seven straight service points aided by great returns from Maegan Burney and AnnaGrey Heustess to begin the second set. East Arcadia answered with two fine returns and an ace to trim the CSD lead to 8-6.
Addie Bowen hammered in 4 service points for the Lady Blue Devils, and Madison Taylor cracked a return winner then delivered a pair of service points that padded the lead to 17-9.
Burney fired in a pair of service points, Heustess added another service point, and Masaid and Taylor smacked return winners as Clarkton closed out the set at 25-13.
Dyiamond Robinson drilled in an ace and another service point to begin the final set. Bowen belted a winning returns, but the Lady Panthers rallied with consecutive aces to go up 8-5.A pair of Bowen service points pulled Clarkton even at 8-8.
After an East Arcadia service error, Taylor fired in 12 straight service points that included a pair of aces. Autumn Nye grew the CSD lead to 21-9 with a return winner, and Cydney Campbell served out the match at 25-10 with a pair of service points.
Coach Chris Callihan’s Lady Blue Devils are now 1-0 on the season while East Arcadia is 0-2.
