Middle School Volleyball Clarkton School of Discovery 3, East Arcadia 0

Clarkton School of Discovery defeated East Arcadia 3-0 in Bladen Five Middle School Conference volleyball action Tuesday at Tar Heel by set scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 15-11.

In the first set, East Arcadia took an early 1-0 lead before Gracyn Martin’s serve put the Blue Devils ahead 2-1. Adrienne Howell increased Clarkton’s lead to 7-2 with four great serves.

The Panthers regained the lead after 8 service points including one ace. Cybil Campbell stopped the East Arcadia run with a good return then went to the service line and ran off 11 service points of her own, including an ace.

With the score 20-12, Ruth Ward drilled an ace past the Lady Panthers. After a service point by East Arcadia, Howell made a great pass to Martin for the kill, giving Clarkton a 22-14 lead. Madison Cain added another service point for the Lady Devils and a side-out by the Panthers gave Clarkton the 25-16 win.

In the second set, East Arcadia held a 6-2 advantage before 5 service points from Alyssa Futrell, including two aces, vaulted Clarkton ahead 8-6. Lauren Bowen’s service point kept it tight at 10-8.

A nice return from Khadijah Jones and two service points from Sara Gargala increased the Blue Devil lead to 13-10. Ashley Hunsinger hit three service points with an ace, making the score 17-11. Another great return by Jones and a couple of service points by Lily Lin grew Clarkton’s lead to 20-12.

Lin smashed a return, and Futrell hit a couple of service points. With the score 24-14 the Panthers would make a run scoring on 5 straight serves before hitting one out, giving CSD the 25-20 win.

In the third set, East Arcadia would start by firing an ace passed the Lady Blue Devils. A good return by Lin and two service points by Futrell would get CSD back on track, 4-2. Another great return by Jones and a service point by Campbell made the score 6-3.

Two return points by Howell and one by Ward kept Clarkton’s lead at 9-7. Futrell hit three more service points and a side-out by East Arcadia gave Clarkton the 15-11 victory.

Clarkton improves to 2-0 on the season with the victory, while East Arcadia is now 0-3.
