Alyssa Futrell knocked in a trio of service points that stretched the Clarkton lead to 16-3. Jones smacked in a winning return, and Sara Gargala tallied a service point as the CSD lead grew to 18-4.
Lin fired in 2 aces during a run of 3 straight service points, before Katie Evans’ service point captured set point.
Evans hammered in a winner off of a pass from Sophia Masaid to begin the second set. Evans then won 5 consecutive service points for a 6-0 Lady Blue Devil lead.
AnnaGrey Heustess broke the set open by slamming in an ace during a run of 7 straight service points that opened up a 14-1 Clarkton lead.
The Lady Panthers rallied back to within 14-11 before Heustess cracked ‘an awesome return’ according to Clarkton Coach Chris Callihan.
Maegan Burney delivered a service point, then belted a winning return. Evans served out the set by winning 5 straight service points. Evans blasted in 3 aces during the run.
Merritt Martin kicked off the third set by winning 9 straight service points. Bowen and Jones smashed in kills during the run, Lauren Gooden knocked in a winning return, and Martin racked up 2 aces.
Jones recaptured the serve with a winning return, and Bowen reeled off 14 consecutive service points to close out the match. Bowen fired in 2 aces during the final run, Gooden nailed a winning return, and Gargala captured what Coach Callihan called ‘a spectacular return point.’
The Lady Blue Devils improved to 2-0 with the victory, while Tar Heel is now 1-1.
In Tuesday’s second match, Elizabethtown won their first match of the season 3-0 over Bladenboro. The Lady Bulldogs are now 0-2.
Clarkton School of Discovery will play Elizabethtown in next Tuesday’s 4 p.m. match at East Arcadia. East Arcadia will battle Bladenboro in the second match.Share:
