Saturday evening was not a regular Saturday evening in Bladenboro. The Miss Bladenboro Scholarship Pageant crowned the new court, including the new Miss Bladenboro and Miss Bladenboro Princess for 2015-2016, and gave away more scholarships than ever before.
Miss Bladenboro for 2014 -2015, Lindsey Herring was celebrated for being the first ever Miss Bladenboro competing in the Miss North Carolina Scholarship Pageant. Directors of the local pageant, John and Karen Ruffin presented Herring with a sign honoring her for making history. Karen said, “The town (of Bladenboro) and we wanted to do something for you making history, and this is going on the gate at the entrance of our town.”

Before crowning the new Miss Bladenboro and Miss Bladenboro Princess awards were given to participants and community members whom have made a difference this past year. The Hiram Hester Memorial Community Service Scholarship Award and the Shelby Storms Miss Congeniality Award were given out in memory of our local community members who have passed away, but made a huge difference before leaving us, according to Karen.

Some contestants received overall fitness, talent, and beauty awards, Ambassador awards, and some of the awards included scholarships. There were four scholarships given all together at this year’s Miss Bladenboro pageant, which is also a first according to Karen.
