The Miss Bladenboro Scholarship Pageant will be held October 17th and is in need of supporters. The pageant committee members, Dan and Sunday Allen, and pageant Directors, John and Karen Ruffin, gave a report at the Boost the ‘Boro meeting, listing all the pageant has to offer Bladenboro and Bladen County, and the opportunities the ladies competing in the pageant get to take advantage of by being in the pageant.

Dan and Sunday Allen spoke first about the progress of the pageant in just one year’s time.
Mrs. Allen said, “Karen and John have built something very respectful and you as a town, we as a county, have a lot to be proud of, this year’s pageant will already be a record maker.”

Sunday went on to explain, “This years’ Miss Bladenboro Scholarship Pageant winner will compete for the Miss North Carolina title. We have added a second level, Miss North Carolina Outstanding Teen Competition. There will be a Miss Bladenboro Outstanding Teen winner in this year’s pageant to compete in the Miss North Carolina pageant. That’s two potential winners, that is a big deal.”

Sunday praised the John and Karen Ruffin, Co-Directors of the Miss Bladenboro Pageant, by saying, “They have built something to be proud of and it shows that girls from small town festivals can do big things.”

Mrs. Ruffin gave a list of 22 items to the committee showcasing all the ways in which Miss Bladenboro Scholarship Pageant has contributed to Bladenboro and other communities in the past year. The Miss Bladenboro Scholarship Pageant qualified to be a prelim for the Miss North Carolina Pageant this past pageant year, 2014-2015. Miss Bladenboro Lindsey Herring competed this year for the Miss North Carolina title.

Even though Herring did not place this past year in the Miss North Carolina Pageant, doesn’t mean all was lost. According to Karen, Herring did receive a scholarship from the Miss North Carolina Pageant along with the Miss Bladenboro Scholarship. Mrs. Ruffin reported that the opportunity of being a Miss North Carolina Prelim is great not only for the pageant court, but also for Bladenboro and Bladen County because it gives a new platform for our community to be seen on.

Currently the pageant goes from Birth to 24 year old ladies competing. There are several different ways you can support the pageant. If you would like, you may make a tax deductible monetary donation, provide gift certificates from a particular business that will help in preparing the winners of the pageant for Miss NC, donate bouquets to be presented at the pageant, or you may donate the Court’s title t-shirts, trophies, or anything else the pageant may have to purchase in order to operate.
