DHesterA man who was reported missing from his home in Bladenboro barricaded himself in a home in Fayetteville for several hours on Sunday morning.

According to Lt. David McLaurin of the Fayetteville Police Department, Darryl Reed Hester Jr., 54, broke into a home in Fayetteville and was confronted by the couple that resided there. According to a release from the Fayetteville PD, Hester left the house but fired a round into the ground.

According to the release, Hester was seen entering a residence at 2824 Morganton Road and police were called.  Officers surrounded the residence at 2824 Morganton Road and attempted to make contact with the suspect.  The suspect would not communicate with the officers, and after confirming that the residents of 2824 Morganton Road were safe, the decision was made to negotiate with the suspect in hopes of a peaceful resolution, according to the release.

Hester requested a sandwich and a pack cigarettes and the police department supplied those and he surrendered, said McLaurin.

He is facing felony charges of breaking and entering of a residence, first-degree burglary, larceny of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. His bail was set at $200,000 secured bond.
