A 3-year old boy missing from Craven County has been found alive. The Craven County Sheriff’s Office announced the news late Thursday night.

Searchers received a tip of a child crying in the woods on Thursday. According to the Craven County Sheriff’s Office, searchers reported to the area and located Casey Hathaway in the woods calling for his mother. Casey had been missing since Tuesday.

The Craven County Sheriff’s Office posted on their Facebook page, “We found Casey alive and he is safe with his family, getting the medical care his little body needs. Thank you to the entire Craven County community, to our law enforcement partners, and especially to our dedicated search and rescue professionals. We found Casey!”

Sheriff Chip Hughes said, “It’s a great evening folks. We brought Casey to his family, just like we said we were going to do. Little fella is happy. His parents are happy, as well.”

A member of the Chocowinity EMS team, Shawn Grier, is credited with finding Casey after following up on the tip of the child crying in the woods, according to WCTI.

His parents thanked all of the volunteers, who assisted with the efforts to find Casey Hathaway and bring him home. Casey is reported to be resting at Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern.
