HARTSVILLE, SC – West Bladen grad Morgan Sweeney drove in 2 runs Saturday but her Newberry Lady Wolves were eliminated 9-7 in extra innings by Coker in the South Atlantic Conference Softball Tournament.

Sweeney lifted a sacrifice fly down the rightfield line in the second inning that scored Rachel Marion and tied the game 1-1.

In Newberry’s 4-run sixth-inning rally that put the Lady Wolves ahead 7-3, Sweeney ripped a single through the leftside that drove in Myranda Dills. The Bladenboro native advanced on a single and scored on Christina Linton’s sacrifice fly.

Coker fought back with 3 runs in the sixth, tied the game 7-7 in the seventh and scored 2 runs in the eighth to pull out the win.

Sweeney played in 31 games for the Wolves who finished with a 33-16 record. The sophmore outfielder batted .254 with a .310 slugging percentage. She scored 14 runs, drove in 9 and slammed one home run.
