West Bladen grad Morgan Sweeney cracked 3 hits Wednesday as her Newberry College Lady Wolves split a double-header at Erskine College in Due West, SC.
Sweeney batted 2-4 and scored a run in Newberry’s 3-2 victory in the second game. Sweeney belted a first-inning single, moved up on a sacrifice and Myranda Dills’ single then darted home on a fielder’s choice to give the Lady Wolves a 2-0 lead.
The freshman second baseman also ripped a single through the left side in the second inning.
In the first game, Sweeney knocked in teammate Christina Linton with a sixth inning single that trimmed the Erskine lead to 3-2. Sweeney then stole second base but was stranded there.
Erskine scored 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth and held on for a 6-5 victory.
Newberry is now 10-7 on the season and will host Augusta College Saturday in a 1 p.m. double-header.
