Public MeetingThe Mother County Genealogical Society will meet October 13th from 12 noon until 2 PM in the Bladenboro Historical Society Building located at 818 South Main Street, Bladenboro, NC.

Terry Smith Cain will speak on  Colonel James Gillespie, who served with distinction in the American Revolution. Gillespie was a delegate to the 1776 Halifax Convention that wrote the state’s first Constitution, and both State ratification conventions for the U.S. Constitution. He served multiple terms in the state legislature as a representative, senator and Secretary of the Council of State before being elected four times to the United States House of Representatives. Gillespie and his wife, Dorcas Mumford were the progenitors of a large number of Bladen County residents who descend from their son, David and Sarah Street Gillespie.
