27 Students Receive Funds to Pay for College

MILLSBORO, DE – July 29, 2021 — Mountaire Farms, the nation’s fourth largest chicken producer, recently awarded 27 students with $2,500 scholarships to help them pay for college.

Children and grandchildren of employees, growers, and grain suppliers are all eligible for the scholarships, which were announced recently. Winners received a certificate and a scholarship.

“We are proud of this program because it embraces everything that we care about – our employees, our growers, our grain producers and their families,” said Phillip Plylar, President of Mountaire Farms. “And these students have all demonstrated a commitment to their education, and to their communities, which we believe should be celebrated.”

This year’s recipients include (broken into two groups – Delmarva and North Carolina):

2021 Scholarship Recipients Delmarva

Bethany Mavromatis is a graduate of East Jackson Comprehensive High School and now attends the University of North Carolina Charlotte. Her mother, Sonia Watson-Conser, is a safety and Health Manager in Selbyville, DE.

Estefania Samper is a graduate of Indian River High School and now attends the University of Delaware. Her father, Luis Samper, is a Further Processing Scheduling Manager in Selbyville, DE.

Trinity Kelso is a graduate of Sussex Technical High School and now attends the University of Virginia. Her mother Brittany Perry, is the Accounts Receivable Manager in Millsboro, DE.

Abigail West is a graduate of Indian River High School and now attends West Virginia University. Her father and grandfather grow corn, soybeans, and broilers for Mountaire in Selbyville, DE.

Mason Morean is a graduate of Seaford High School and now attends the University of Delaware. His grandfather, Scott Brittingham, is a Regional Grain Facilities Manager for Mountaire Farms in Millsboro, DE.

Abby Furr is a graduate of Stanly Early College and now attends Appalachian State University. Her father, Chris Furr, is a grain producer for Mountaire Farms in Millsboro, DE.

Camille Victoria Bello is a graduate of Sussex Technical High School and now attends the University of Delaware. Her father, Vicente Bello (Supervisor), and mother, Lily Bello (Purchasing), work for Mountaire Farms in Selbyville, DE.

Caroline Saathoff is a graduate of North Caroline High School and now attends North Carolina State University. Her father, Danny Saathoff, and grandfather, Bill Saathoff, are both grain producers for Mountaire Farms in Millsboro, DE.

Edward Yu is a graduate of Sussex Academy and now attends the University of Delaware Honors College. His father and mother, Wan and Eun Yu, are broiler growers for Mountaire Farms in Selbyville, DE.

Jessica L Lewis is a graduate of Sussex Central High School and now attends Delaware Technical Community College. Her grandfather is a broiler grower for Mountaire Farms, in Millsboro, DE.

Kylie Kruger is a graduate of Sussex Technical High School and now attends Delaware Technical Community College. Her grandparents, Wayne and Margie Murray, are broiler growers for Mountaire Farms in Millsboro, DE.

Leslie Webb is a graduate of Lake Forest High School and now attends the University of Delaware. Her father, Scott Webb, is broiler grower for Mountaire Farms in Millsboro, DE.

Maddison LaPearl is a graduate of Delmar High School and now attends Waynesburg University. Her father, JR LaPearl, is the Regional Feed Mill Manager at Mountaire Farms in Millsboro, DE.

Mindy Blevins is a graduate of Indian River High School and now attends Delaware Technical Community College. Her father, Charles Blevins, is a Frankford Feed Mill Quality Assurance Technician.

Walter Bailey is a graduate of Dilon Christian School and now attends North Carolina State University. His grandfather, Tommy Stone, is a broiler grower for Mountaire Farms in Millsboro, DE.

2021 Scholarship Recipients in North Carolina

Jonathan Echerd is a graduate of Alexander Central High School and now attends East Carolina University. His parents, Chris and Kim Echerd, are growers for Mountaire Farms in Lumber Bridge, NC.

Joseph Sloan is a graduate of South Iredell High School and now attends Western Carolina University. Both his father, Brian Sloan, and grandfather, Howard Sloan, raise pullets in Lumber Bridge, NC.

Caselyn Little is a graduate of South Stanly High School and now attends Lees McRae College. Her grandfather, Clay Little, is a grower and grain producer for Mountaire Farms in Lumber Bridge, NC.

Amanda Brooke Brandon is a graduate of Starmount High School and now attends North Carolina State University. Her parents, Rex and Amanda Brandon, are breeders for Mountaire Farms in Lumber Bridge, NC.

Anesu Mavhiya is a graduate of Douglas Byrd High School and now attends the University of North Carolina Pembroke. Her father, Borthwell Mavhiya, works in the debone department, Lumber Bridge, NC.

Diem Nguyen is a graduate of Richmond Senior High School and now attends Athens Technical College. Her father is a broiler grower for Mountaire Farms in Lumber Bridge, NC.

Hector J. Pacheco is a graduate of Scotland Early College High School and now attends North Carolina State University. His father, Hector Pacheco, is the Scotland County Feed Mill Manager.

Marlene Gomez is a graduate of Jordan Matthews High School and now attends North Carolina State University. Her mother, Rosa Lopez, is a Human Resources Representative in Siler City, NC.

Garrett Brown is a graduate of Alexander Central High School and now attends Wilkes Community College. His father, Brandon Brown, is a Breeder Manager in Lumber Bridge, NC.

Hailey Howell is a graduate of Grace Christian School and now attends Sandhills Community College. Her mother, Lori Howell, is an Occupational Health Manager in Siler City, NC.

Chkylle Boado is a graduate of Westover High School and now attends the University of North Carolina Charlotte. Her mother, Christine Johnson, works in the Black Label department in Lumber Bridge, NC.

Mary Overcash is a graduate of Alexander Central High School and now attends Lees-McRae College. Her grandfather, Gale Smith, is a grower for Mountaire Farms in Lumber Bridge, NC.
