East Bladen High SchoolRecord-setting East Bladen senior halfback Farrell Murchison and his twin brother, fullback/defensive lineman Larrell Murchison, have committed to play football next season at Winston-Salem State University.

The brothers visited Winston-Salem State this past weekend, and the commitment was officially announced Wednesday morning. Other finalists included Arkansas State and UNC-Pembroke.

The Winston-Salem State Rams finished 9-2 last season and lost 21-17 to Virginia State in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship Game. That loss snapped a 32-game CIAA winning streak for the Rams.

Farrell Murchison has received a plethora of post-season awards including the Four County Conference Player of the Year, NC Preps Class 2-A All-State Team, Fayetteville Observer Region Player of the Year and Wilmington Star-News All-Area First Team.

Murchison carried 285 times this season for 2,491 yards and 38 total touchdowns as the Eagles posted a 10-3 record and reached the second round of the State Class 2-A Play-offs.

The 2,491 yards set an East Bladen record for rushing yardage in a season breaking former Appalachian State star Kevin Richardson’s previous record. For his career Farrell rushed 685 times for 5,700 yards and 73 touchdowns which are also school records.

Larrell Murchison was selected to the Star-News All-Area Second Team Offense as a fullback. He was also an All-Four County Conference selection.

Larrell Murchison rushed 70 times for 545 yards and five touchdowns. Larrell was also instrumental as a blocker in clearing the way for East Bladen’s offense to roll up 423 yards of offense and 37 points per game.

The brothers now must wait until the Official Signing Day in February to make their commitments official.
