CHARLOTTE AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, CHAROTTE, N.C. –  The North Carolina Air National Guard invites media representatives to the acceptance ceremony of the first two C-17 Globemaster III aircraft at 1:00 P.M on Saturday, April 7, at the Charlotte Air National Guard Base. This marks a major point in the unit’s transition into a C-17 Wing.

The Ceremony is being hosted by Maj. Gen. Gregory A. Lusk, the Adjutant General of the North Carolina National Guard. State and local elected officials will also be in attendance.

Media members will be allowed to take photos and video imagery of the C-17 during the flyover, taxiing and on static display.

For the past 40 years, the N.C. Air National Guard has flown the C-130 Hercules Aircraft, utilizing them in our mission to maintain wartime readiness with the ability to mobilize and deploy expeditiously to carry out air support missions and activities in the event of a war or natural disaster.

The transition of wing to the C-17 is a cost-effective, total force decision that takes advantage of a superior, multi-platform transportation hub, close to major military installations and seaports. The new, heavy-lift capability will greatly increase North Carolina’s ability to serve its citizens and those in the surrounding states during disaster-response operations, while also increasing our capabilities abroad.

Media outlets interested in attending the ceremony must contact Capt. Monica Ebert at monica.l.ebert.mil@mail.mil, 704-391-4239 or 980-721-4032 prior to 3 p.m on Friday, 6 April,  with the full name and contact number of the individuals who plan to cover this event. News media individuals should arrive no later than 11 a.m on 7 April.
