RALEIGH, N.C. – The North Carolina National Guard’s Tar Heel ChalleNGe program for at- risk youths will host a graduation ceremony Friday, April 7, at 10 a.m. at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center 26032-B Newt Road, Albemarle, North Carolina. Local and state officials will be in attendance to congratulate Cadets on their accomplishments.

The Tar Heel Challenge Youth Academy at New London, Class 03 will celebrate 51 cadets graduating from the Tar Heel ChalleNGe program. The Tar Heel ChalleNGe program consists of a 22-week in-residence phase focused on academics and physical training aimed at reclaiming troubled high school dropouts and giving them the life skills to become productive citizens. Cadets have completed over 3,100 hours of community service at various locations throughout Stanly County and are enrolled in a GED diploma program while in the in-residence phase.  A one-year mentoring phase follows the in-residence portion.

NC Guard’s Tar Heel Challenge Academy has existed for 23 years and graduated over 4,200 Cadets from its program. The New London campus is the second academy established in North Carolina. The first academy is located in Salemburg.
