National Charter Schools Week—the annual celebration of charter schools and the movement—will take place from May 10 through May 16.

Charter schools are independently-operated public schools that have the freedom to design classrooms that meet their students’ needs. All charter schools operate under a contract with a charter school authorizer – usually a nonprofit organization, government agency, or university – that holds them accountable to the high standards outlined in their “charter.”

Bladen County has two Charter Schools located in Elizabethtown.

Emereau: Bladen, a public charter school located on Airport Road in Elizabethtown, celebrated the week by focusing on the students. The school announced improvements being made to the soccer and softball fields, and spotlighted their 8th-grade class this week.

Emereau: Bladen is a tuition-free charter school. Applying to Emereau: Bladen for the 2020-2021 Academic Year steps are located on their website.

The Paul R. Brown Leadership Academy is a tuition-free charter school located at 1630 Martin Luther King Drive in Elizabethtown. The mission of this charter school is to serve its students through a commitment to excellence in an education that serves today, tomorrow, and the future by providing an academically rich program that encompasses all skill sets for life: reading, communication, critical and creative thinking, problem solving, work ethic, integrity, physical wellness, and leadership, according to their website. Applications for enrollment by be submitted online.
