NDP-Slider-WakeUpAmericaThe National Day of Prayer is set to take place on Thursday, May 5, at noon at the flag pole located in the front of the Elizabethtown Municipal Building.

The theme for this year’s event is “Wake Up America” and the scripture is Isaiah 58:1 “Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet.”

Organizer of the Bladen County National Day of Prayer Clara Adams said this day is very important.

“We need to pray for our country because it is falling apart. Without prayer, we have nothing to hold it together,” said Adams.

She explained the National Day of Prayer is a day for everyone to come together in prayer for our country, our county, our towns, and our leaders.

While the National Day of Prayer was founded about 65 years ago, Bladen County began taking part about 15 years ago, according to Adams.

She said a former minister at Wesley’s Chapel United Methodist Church was leading the event then. Adams said the minister and his family moved and he told her it was up to her.

“He said Clara, I’m leaving it with you,” said Adams of that fateful conversation.

She has continued to lead the event. Adams said the event is important to her because she is a prayer warrior.

“That’s what the Lord has called me to do,” said Adams.
