WASHINGTON – On Thursday, March 29th, the National Right to Life Committee sent a letter commending Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) on his 100% pro-life voting record and his work on the FY2018 Omnibus, which was passed by Congress on March 22 and signed by President Trump on March 23, 2018.

“As a longtime advocate for the sanctity of life, I am thankful to National Right to Life for their efforts and for working closely with me on pro-life matters. The funding bill I recently voted for is another major pro-life victory. The bill does not designate a single dollar for Planned Parenthood and maintains all existing pro-life policies, including the Hyde amendment, the Dickey-Wicker amendment, and the Weldon amendment,” said Congressman Pittenger.

The FY2018 Omnibus appropriations bill contains numerous pro-life provisions:

  • Maintains existing Hyde protections, which prevent federal taxpayer funds from being used to provide abortions.
  • Maintains the Dickey-Wicker amendment, which prohibits HHS from using appropriated funds for the creation of human embryos for research purposes or for research in which human embryos are destroyed.
  • Maintains the Weldon amendment, which prevents the federal government and state and local governments from enacting policies that require health care entities to provide or pay for certain abortion-related services.
  • Protects President Trump’s expanded Mexico City policy, which restricts U.S. assistance to any to global health assistance furnished by all departments or agencies if such assistance is directed to an organization that provides abortion or abortion services.
