National Weather ServiceThe National Weather Service has issued an update on the Winnabow, NC NOAA Weather Radio serving Columbus, Bladen, Brunswick, New Hanover, and Pender Counties.

According to Steven Pfaff with the National Weather Service Office in Wilmington:

*The transmitter continues to operate at a degraded level due to damage sustained to the cabling and antennae.

*The updated replacement parts are beginning to arrive for the new antennae. Once the contracting for the rigging has been completed the parts will be moved to the tower for assembly and installation. We do not have a date as to when this will occur but the process is underway.

*Once completed, there will be improved cable rigging that will lead to reduced signal loss and a better antennae in place to improve service across southeast NC and adjacent coastal waters.

*Even though the current antennae is working at a degraded state we do not anticipate any significant issues with the upcoming NC Statewide Tornado Drill.
