The NC Highway Patrol has released the name of the victim killed in a crash in NC 11 Friday.

Island Franklin Bannerman of Maple Hill was killed when the logging truck he was driving crashed and caught fire on NC 11 near the Kelly community, said NC Highway Patrol Trooper R. L. Walker.

The crash occurred when a Charlie Boney of Maple Hill was driving his GMC Yukon north on NC 11 towing a utility trailer. As he approached the bridge near the Cape Fear River the trailer came loose and crossed into the southbound lane, according to Trooper Walker.

Bannerman was traveling south on NC 11 and his logging truck struck the utility trailer, then struck the bridge railing, rupturing the fuel tank and catching on fire.

Due to the collision the logs came loose and struck a truck owned Gregory Poole Company of Raleigh and operated by Joshua Crank of Jacksonville, according to Trooper Walker.

Crank suffered minor injuries.

Boney was charged with failing to properly secure the trailer and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
