WINNABOW – Coleman Tatum and Michael Young combined to pitch a five-hit shutout and strike out nine batters as Bladen County defeated Brunswick American 4-0 on Tuesday in the NC Dixie Boys Baseball State Tournament at Town Creek Park.

Bladen County advances to a semi-final game Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. against the winner of the winners bracket final between Hope Mills and Columbus County.

Winning pitcher Coleman Tatum pitched the first 5.1 innings and allowed five hits and two walks while striking out eight. Michael Young relieved and worked the final 1.2 innings on the mound, allowing no hits and no walks while striking out one.

Devon Strange ripped a double to right-center field to lead off the Bladen first inning. Garrison Tatum was hit by a pitch, and Elijah Bullard walloped a triple to left field that scored Devon Strange and Garrison Tatum for a 2-0 lead.

Bullard hammered a double to left field to begin the Bladen sixth inning, and Zamar Lewis smacked a single. Walker Ward knocked in both Bullard and Lewis with a single to center field that padded the lead to 4-0.

Bullard batted a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, triple, two runs batted in and a run scored. Devon Strange finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and a run scored. Ward batted 2-for-3 with two runs batted in. Lewis and Weston Hatcher connected for one hit each, and Lewis and Garrison Tatum scored runs.
