WINNABOW – Hope Mills scored 10 runs in the first three innings en route to an 11-5 victory over Bladen County on Wednesday in the NC Dixie Boys Baseball State Tournament at Town Creek Park. Bladen County finished third in the tournament.

The Bladen All-Stars scored all five of their runs in the fourth inning. Garrison Tatum was hit by a pitch, stole second base and raced home when Michael Young slammed a double to left-center field. Elijah Bullard belted a single to right-center field that scored Young.

Zamar Lewis and Walker Ward drew walks, and Weston Hatcher launched a sacrifice fly to right field that plated Bullard. Devon Strange cracked a single that scored Lewis, and Coleman Tatum knocked in Ward with a single to rightfield.

Young started on the mound for Bladen County and pitched 1.1 innings allowing seven runs on nine hits and four walks while striking out three. Bullard worked 3.2 innings of relief and gave up four runs on three hits and four walks. Devon Strange relieved and struck out the side in the sixth inning.

Devon Strange batted 2-for-3 with a run batted in for Bladen County. Bullard finished 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Young doubled home a run and scored a run. Ward and Coleman Tatum added one hit each. Coleman Tatum and Hatcher drove in runs, and Garrison Tatum, Lewis and Ward scored one run each.
