CARTHAGE – Madison Collins walloped a 2-run homer and pitched 3 innings of relief as Lumberton defeated Brunswick North 11-9 Sunday in an elimination game in the North Carolina Dixie Debs State Tournament.

Collins also walked twice to finish 1-1 at the plate.

Shortstop Conner Brisson was hit by a pitch and scored a run in the second inning then knocked in a run with a single and later scored in the fourth. Brisson walloped a triple to drive in a run in her final trip to the plate and finished 2-2 with 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored.

Firstbaseman Carley Dawson hammered a triple to drive in a run and later scored in the third inning. In her final trip to the plate, she walked and stole a base on the front end of a double-steal that plated a run. Carley Dawson was 1-2 at the plate.

Lumberton scored 4 runs in the second, 3 in the third and 2 in the fourth to take an 11-4 lead and held on for the win. Katie Kinlaw started in the circle and was relieved by Collins in the fourth.

Abby Dawson played second base and is the fourth West Bladen player on the Lumberton team.

Lumberton will play West Stanly Monday at 4 p.m.
